Chung Myung-Sun

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the moderating effects of empathy on the relationship between Korean ethnic sentiments, cheong(ï×) and forgiveness. Cheong, forgiveness and empathy related data was collected from a pool of 201 undergraduate students who completed Cheong scale, Forgiveness Trait Scale(FTS) and Korean-Balanced Emotional Empathy Scale(K-BEES), and were analysed using structural equation modeling(SEM) of moderation. The results indicated that the Korean¡¯s cheong significantly and positively related to forgiveness and empathy. Empathy also significantly and positively related to forgiveness. Subsequently, this study examined a hypothesis model that cheong is predictor variable, forgiveness is outcome variable, and empathy is moderator. The model for this study was entirely verified model fit by CMIN/DF, IFI, TLI, CFI and RMSEA. Further, empathy turned out to have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between cheong and forgiveness. Finally, the implications for psychosocial rehabilitation services, suggestions for future study and several limitations of this study were discussed.
